Phil Poynor

Phillip (Phil) Poynor, J.D. is an entrepreneur, Professor of Aviation at Middle Tennessee State University (Murfreesboro, TN), and a 38-year veteran in the aviation industry. He obtained his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University, his MBA from DePaul University, and his J.D. from St. John’s University.

After spending 11 years with a major international airline in a variety of capacities including industrial engineer, attorney, labor negotiator and manager in flight operations, Professor Poynor began a second career in aviation education that has included flight training and college teaching. He has also participated in several successful entrepreneurial activities, most notably the establishment and expansion of Nassau Flyers, a flight training school in New York.

Professor Poynor was the FAA/Industry National Flight Instructor of the year in 2001 and has been recognized with the National Air Transportation Association Excellence in Pilot Training Award and the State University of New York Chancellor’s award for Excellence in Teaching. He is an Airline Transport rated pilot with over 11,000 flight hours and a Gold Seal instructor. He is co author of the text Air Carrier Operations.

Professor Poynor is Chairman of the Board of the National Assn. of Flight instructors and on the Board of the EAA. He has been designated a NAFI Master Instructor for 11 years.
